The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has given the Federal Government a fresh 21-day ultimatum to address long-standing demands or face a nationwide strike.
The ultimatum, which commenced on August 27, 2025, was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the union’s 77th General Executive Council Meeting held at the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Kano State.
In the statement signed by SSANIP President, Philip Ogunsipe, and National Secretary, Shehu Gaya, the union accused the government of insincerity and neglect in addressing issues affecting polytechnic workers despite several agreements reached in the past.
The workers demanded the release of the new Scheme and Conditions of Service, constitution of a renegotiation committee for the 2010 agreement, payment of outstanding arrears including promotion arrears, salary review arrears of 25/35 percent, wage awards, and full implementation of the new minimum wage as well as the release of the 2023, 2024, and 2025 Needs Assessment funds.
“Council observed with great displeasure the insincerity of the government in keeping to previous agreements or prioritising the education sector. Despite several efforts at peaceful resolution, government has only paid lip service to our demands,” the communiqué read.
The association warned that if its demands are not met within the 21-day window, it would have no choice but to withdraw its services across polytechnics nationwide.
