Controversial Nigerian singer Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, following his failure to meet the bail conditions set by the Upper Area Court. The remand order came after his court appearance on Monday over charges of defamation of character filed against him by veteran Fuji artist Akorede Saheed, popularly known as Saheed Osupa.
Portable, who rose to fame with his hit track Zazoo Zeh, was granted bail in the sum of ₦1 million. However, the conditions attached to his release have proven difficult to fulfil. The court mandated that he provide two sureties of the same amount. One of the sureties must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), while the second must be a property owner residing in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin and must present a valid Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) as proof.
The court’s decision to impose such stringent conditions has sparked conversation online, with many expressing mixed reactions to the legal troubles trailing the outspoken singer. Until the bail terms are satisfied, Portable will remain in custody.
This latest episode adds to the series of controversies that have marked the singer’s public life, raising questions about his conduct and the broader implications for celebrities and accountability under the law.
