PRESIDENT TINUBU RECEIVES CHESS CHAMPION TUNDE ONAKOYA IN LAGOS

Tinubu hosts Tunde Onakoya
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hosted Nigerian chess champion and founder of Chess in Slums Africa, Mr. Tunde Onakoya, at his Lagos residence.
During the visit, Mr. Onakoya presented the Guinness World Record certificate he recently earned for completing the world’s longest chess marathon. He also gifted the President a gold-plated Adire-designed chess board as a token of appreciation.
President Tinubu commended the young chess advocate for using the game to positively impact the lives of children in underserved communities. He described Mr. Onakoya’s story as a reflection of the resilience and brilliance of Nigerian youth.
In a message shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the President said, “Tunde’s journey from the streets of Lagos to breaking global records and uplifting children through chess is inspiring. His efforts align with our vision of ensuring no child is left behind and no talent is wasted.”
The President expressed interest in expanding the initiative across Nigeria and stated that he looked forward to further discussions in Abuja on possible collaboration and federal support.
President Tinubu added that the federal government remains committed to nurturing young talents and supporting transformative grassroots initiatives.
