Fallen telecom mast

A telecom mast belonging to IHS Company collapsed during a heavy downpour today, crashing into a residential building at Unity Estate, Alagbole-Akute in Ogun State and injuring the landlord.

The victim, who was inside the building at the time, escaped with minor bruises and is currently in stable condition after receiving medical attention.

Spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement today. She said the command received a distress call around 2:39 p.m. from Mr. Moses Olalere, reporting the fallen mast due to severe weather conditions.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, directed area commanders to inspect all telecom masts near residential areas and ensure structural safety. The police also pledged to increase public sensitization to prevent similar occurrences.

A preliminary investigation is underway, and further updates are expected.
