President Bola Tinubu conferred a national honour in Saint Lucia.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been conferred with the prestigious Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL) in recognition of his efforts to deepen historical, cultural, and diplomatic relations between Africa and the Caribbean.
The honour was formally bestowed by Saint Lucia’s Governor-General, Errol Charles, during a state reception held on Monday night at Government House, Morne Fortune, as part of President Tinubu’s official visit to the Caribbean island nation.
“I came here as a president, but I’m leaving as a knight. I am greatly honoured, on behalf of my country, on behalf of nearly 220 million people in Nigeria, to stand before you to thank you very much,” Tinubu said in his acceptance remarks.
The Governor-General described the conferment as a recognition of Tinubu’s leadership in promoting Africa-Caribbean partnerships in trade, education, healthcare, climate resilience, and cultural exchange.
“With this investiture, he shall be known as Sir Bola Ahmed Tinubu, KCOSL (Hon.), President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Charles declared.
The event was marked by diplomatic warmth and cultural celebration, underscoring the shared heritage between Nigeria and Saint Lucia.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the hospitality of the Saint Lucian people and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering stronger ties between Nigeria and member states of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
“It cannot be more thrilling, more exciting, and welcoming than that. You are great people,” Tinubu said.
Earlier in the day, the Nigerian president addressed the Parliament of Saint Lucia, pledging to enhance connectivity, expand economic opportunities, and strengthen cultural bonds.
“I made some promises to enhance our connectivity and business opportunities, foster creativity in our future together, and help us overcome the legacy of our forebears’ years of separation,” he stated.
The honour marks a significant diplomatic gesture, signalling deepening Africa-Caribbean solidarity and President Tinubu’s growing profile on the global stage.
