The vice president of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima
Vice-President Kashim Shettima says Nigeria is undergoing a “quiet but resolute” transformation under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
Speaking at the Nigeria–Brazil Business Forum in Abuja on Wednesday, Shettima highlighted ongoing institutional reforms, policy refocus, and renewed global partnerships aimed at economic revival.
“Our policies go beyond reforms for reform’s sake. We’re rebuilding institutions and opening markets with a seriousness of purpose,” he said.
He stressed Nigeria’s alignment with Brazil’s development model, particularly in agriculture, energy, and skills development, and called for deeper cooperation based on mutual innovation and investment—not aid.
Brazil’s Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin echoed the sentiment, describing the moment as “one of the most promising” for both nations, citing plans to revive trade volumes and launch a direct flight route between the two countries.
Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Jumoke Oduwole, urged a reset in trade relations, revealing that bilateral trade had dropped from $9 billion to $2 billion over the past decade. She outlined investment opportunities in agriculture, digital trade, and pharmaceuticals.
