Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has reportedly agreed a sensational move to French D1 Arkema giants, Paris Saint-Germain, in what many observers are already describing as a landmark transfer for Nigerian women’s football.
The dazzling winger, who recently parted ways with Spanish Liga F outfit, Atletico Madrid, following the expiration of her contract in June, is now set to begin a new chapter in her career with the Paris-based side, PRESS reports.
Ajibade, 24, had been a subject of intense transfer speculation in recent weeks, with top clubs from Europe and the United States jostling for her signature. Sources close to the player revealed that she was also courted by several Major League Soccer (MLS) sides, but PSG have now emerged victorious in the race, securing the services of the Super Falcons star in a deal that is expected to be unveiled officially in the coming days.
Her arrival at PSG will see her team up with fellow Nigerian international, Jennifer Echegini, who has already cemented her place as a key figure in the club’s midfield. With Ajibade’s inclusion, the number of Nigerians at the French powerhouse rises to two, a development that has been greeted with excitement by fans and stakeholders back home.
Ajibade’s move comes on the heels of her heroic exploits at the 2024 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco, where she captained the Super Falcons to a record-extending 10th continental title. Her leadership on and off the pitch, coupled with her electrifying performances, earned her the prestigious Best Player of the Tournament award, further cementing her status as one of Africa’s finest football exports.
Known for her blistering pace, technical brilliance, and eye for goal, Ajibade is expected to add depth and dynamism to PSG’s attacking options as they prepare for the new season. Her signing is seen as a strategic move by the French club to bolster their squad ahead of domestic and continental campaigns, including the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Back in Nigeria, the news of Ajibade’s move has sparked widespread celebration among fans, with many hailing it as a testament to the growing influence of Nigerian female footballers on the global stage. As she prepares to don the famous PSG colours, expectations are high that Ajibade will continue to fly the Nigerian flag high and inspire a new generation of young girls dreaming of football greatness.
