President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the full disbursement of allowances and match bonuses for the Super Falcons ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final clash with Morocco.

Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, made the announcement on Thursday while addressing journalists in Abuja. He disclosed that all financial entitlements—covering matches up to and including the final scheduled for July 26—have been released for immediate payment to players, coaching staff, and team officials.

Dikko described the move as “policy in motion” and a reflection of President Tinubu’s renewed commitment to prioritising the welfare of Nigerian athletes.

“This is now the standard practice. No more delays, no more drama. What we are building is a new era of sports administration founded on dignity, trust, and shared prosperity,” he said.

He added that similar support has been extended to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are preparing to compete at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Côte d’Ivoire. According to him, they too will receive enhanced allowances and bonuses under the new policy.

Dikko expressed optimism that the reforms would transform Nigeria’s sports landscape and earn future generations’ respect for Tinubu’s leadership in the sector.
