President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria following a working visit to France and the United Kingdom.
The presidential aircraft touched down late Monday at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where senior government officials warmly received him.
Among those present to welcome the president were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The president embarked on the trip on April 2, with Paris as his first stop. According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the visit was aimed at reviewing the administration’s achievements and planning for future reforms.
However, the president’s extended stay abroad has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians. Critics, including opposition leaders Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, questioned the timing of the trip, citing the ongoing security challenges in states like Plateau and Benue.
In response, the presidency firmly dismissed speculations that the trip was for medical reasons. Presidential aide Daniel Bwala emphasized that the president remained actively engaged in governance throughout his visit, issuing directives to address pressing national issues.
The presidency reiterated that Tinubu’s trip was strictly for official purposes, underscoring his commitment to steering the nation towards progress.
