President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced plans to visit Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, to commiserate with the people following Saturday’s deadly attack in Yelewata community that claimed multiple lives.
“I will adjust my programme and go see Benue people on Wednesday,” Tinubu said on Monday while inaugurating the Greater Abuja Water Supply project.
The president expressed sympathy to victims and their families, urging the people of Benue to manage their diversity, frustration, and anger in order to live in unity and peace.
According to a statement from his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will meet with traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, youth representatives, and other stakeholders to seek lasting peace in the state.
Ahead of the visit, the president has dispatched top federal officials to Benue, including the secretary to the government of the federation, the inspector general of police, the national security adviser, and heads of intelligence agencies, alongside Senate and House Defence Committee chairmen.
A town hall meeting is also scheduled during the visit to allow for open dialogue on restoring peace and security in the region.
