Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, has finally addressed the failed transfer that would have seen him join Italian giants AC Milan, stating categorically that the collapse of the deal was not his fault and that he remains focused on his football journey.

The 24-year-old, who was widely expected to seal a move to the Rossoneri during the summer transfer window, saw the deal fall through due to medical concerns reportedly raised by Milan’s team of doctors.

Speaking during his official unveiling at German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, where he has now joined on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, Boniface dismissed the swirling rumours surrounding his fitness and the failed Milan move. “Whatever you want to believe in the media, you can believe them, that’s not on me… I don’t care. If my body is not 100%, I will be in the hospital. I will not be here talking to you,” he said pointedly, making it clear that he is in good health and ready to compete.

The Nigerian forward, who played a pivotal role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten Bundesliga title run under manager Xabi Alonso, added that he holds no grudge over the failed transfer. “It wasn’t my fault; they decided not to pursue it. I have a strong mentality: it happens, it’s okay, I’ll move on,” he stated, showing maturity and resilience in the face of disappointment.

Boniface’s move to Werder Bremen comes as a strategic decision to secure regular playing time and continue his development.

The striker, who previously starred for Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium before moving to Germany, has been tipped to bring physicality, pace, and finishing prowess to Bremen’s attack. Club officials have expressed confidence in his ability to make an impact, especially as they look to climb the Bundesliga table this season.

Despite his club success, Boniface was notably absent from the Super Eagles squad for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header against Rwanda and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana. His omission has sparked debate among fans and pundits, with many questioning the criteria used for selection, especially given his recent form and fitness.

As the new Bundesliga season kicks off, all eyes will be on Boniface to see how he responds to the setback and whether he can use his time at Werder Bremen to remind the football world of his undeniable talent. For now, the striker remains focused, unbothered by the noise, and determined to let his boots do the talking.
