Media mogul and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against promoting the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, saying Wike is not the kind of character that deserves national elevation.
Speaking in response to Wike’s recent comments about him on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Momodu called on President Tinubu to look beyond short-term political calculations and assess Wike’s conduct in public service.
“My appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is that no matter what you are expecting to gain from Wike in 2027, Wike is not the kind of character you should promote. He is not the kind of young man who should hijack our common patrimony,” Momodu said.
He accused Wike of being corrupted by power and wealth, alleging that the former Rivers State governor had undergone a radical transformation after rising through Nigeria’s political system.
“When a man who had been a nobody gets power, he begins to change slowly and steadily. The oppressed man respects only one man: the oppressor. Wike used to respect only one man—Rotimi Amaechi,” Momodu said, noting his long-standing friendship with Amaechi.
He traced his relationship with Wike back to 2022, when the former governor invited him to Rivers State to cover key projects. Momodu said Wike benefited from his media expertise and reputation management but became unrecognisable once their political paths crossed.
“Of course, after power in Nigeria comes the spirit of money. Also very demonic if you don’t know how to manage it well,” he added.
The two PDP stalwarts reportedly fell out during the party’s 2022 presidential primary race, when both men joined the race to become the 2023 presidential candidate of the PDP. Both men, among others, lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Wike, who served as Rivers governor from 2015 to 2023, was later appointed Minister of the FCT by President Tinubu, sparking ongoing tensions within the PDP and opposition circles.
